GGI Geologist presents Spatial Database at NGWA

GGI Geologist April Jean Tafoya presented “GIS-Based Dynamic Database for Water Rights Administration in the Gila River Valley, New Mexico” at this year’s National Groundwater Association (NGWA) meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The presentation provided an overview of how the GIS-Based Dynamic Database, or spatial database, was created and how it will be utilized in administration of water rights along the Gila River in New Mexico and Arizona.

Spatial databases are essential tools in water rights administration and adjudications, and the most efficient way stakeholders, acequias, ditches and regulators to track “To Be Irrigated” or “TBI” acres in annual irrigation allotment tracking.
