‘Tis the Season for Making Snow at Taos Ski Valley – Sustainably!

Taos Ski Valley (TSV) was awarded the National Ski Area Association (NSAA) Sustainable Slopes Grant for all their hard work conserving water by improving efficiency of their snowmaking by using high efficiency HKD equipment.  Thanks to John Weinmeister and the snow-making crew!!  JW was also named one of 3 nationwide finalists for the National Ski Area Associations Hero of Sustainability award, which was in a large part due to the work he had done to improve the efficiency of TSV’s snowmaking system.  Way to go TSV!

TSV pursues sustainable business practices through a mission identified as “Taos Verde” which identifies energy, stewardship, water, waste and engagement as the five core areas of focus.  Glorieta Geoscience, Inc. (GGI) has been managing water rights and monitoring water usage for TSV since 1990 and we are excited to see this national recognition of TSV’s accomplishments!  GGI supports TSV’s dedication to this mission through our work with TSV on the River Restoration project, which restored a section of the Rio Hondo as a component of the base area renovation.
